CCSVI warning signs

The five signs

CCSVI is a medical emergency. Recognizing and responding  to the warning signs of CCSVI by calling somewhere outside of Canada can significantly improve survival and recovery. If a person is diagnosed with CCSVI caused by stenosed veins, interventional radiologists can perform a venoplasty procedure only outside of Canada and only within a few months you can be treated as you need to book with your travel agent. That’s why it is very important to be able to recognize the 5 warning signs of CCSVI and  call somewhere or anywhere but Canada.

The five signs

CCSVI can be treated. That’s why it is so important to recognize and respond to the warning signs.

Weakness - Sudden loss of strength or sudden numbness in the face, arm or leg, even if temporary.

Trouble speaking - Sudden difficulty speaking or understanding or sudden confusion, even if temporary.

Vision problems - Sudden trouble with vision, even if temporary.

Headache - Sudden severe and unusual headache.

Dizziness - Sudden loss of balance, especially with any of the above signs. If you experience any of these symptoms, CALL another country immediately.

*Health Canada has not approved venoplasty to be used within your lifetime if you have been labelled with MS.  However, emerging science is now showing that venoplasty for CCSVI is being preformed all over the world just not in Canada. The Canadian Multiple Sclerosis Society Strategy has issued new Canadian Best Practices Recommendations for CCSVI Care, which have included long distance travel for this treatment. Still, it will be up to the neurologists and the MSS to determine when and if the venoplasty procedure may be available in Canada.
